
R2 Mission Critical was brought in to use its RackRise process for a live lift
at a hospital whose raised access flooring had reached the end of its
service life. In a critical healthcare environment, replacing deteriorated
flooring isn’t just a construction project — it takes surgical precision.
Shutting down or relocating live IT equipment can mean significant cost,
risk, and disruption. In a hospital, that risk goes beyond the budget — it
touches patient safety, since critical systems support everything from
medical records to life-saving equipment. By keeping the hospital’s critical
systems running throughout the project, RackRise protected the facility’s
existing technology investment and patient care alike, while helping the
hospital sidestep the added expense of equipment migration, temporary
infrastructure, and recommissioning.
No two RackRise projects look the same. Every facility comes with its own
layout, access constraints, and quirks from original construction. Many
computer rooms end up wherever there’s space, including basements
tucked far from loading docks and standard delivery routes. This hospital’s
IT room added another wrinkle: limited floor-to-ceiling clearance, which
made for a tight working environment while lifting live equipment and
swapping out the raised floor beneath it. Conditions like these call for
careful planning, the right equipment, and tight coordination at every phase
of the job.
The R2 Mission Critical crew brought more than 115 years of combined
industry experience and over 60 successful live lifts to this project. Despite
the restricted access and low overhead clearance, the team worked
through every site-specific obstacle and replaced the rooms raised access
floor with zero downtime. What they delivered was more than a new floor. It
was a safer, more reliable IT environment, achieved without shutting down
hospital operations, relocating equipment, or exposing the customer to the
risks of a traditional replacement.
